F I N E R, “Functional INtEgrative Restoration” Pain Program
The Functional INtEgrative Restoration (FINER) program is a virtual pain program hosted and facilitated by Mass General Brigham/Spaulding Rehabilitation Network physiatrists, physical therapists, and pain psychologists trained in chronic pain management.
The program consists of bi-annual, 8-week, virtual group meetings for pain education, integrative skills training, and meaningful engagement with others who understand what it means to be in chronic pain.
There is also a hybrid/in-person 2 hour, bi-monthly pain workshop/ group mind body therapy option at Mass General Brigham, Foxboro. See “Calendar” for upcoming chronic pain workshops.
FINER workshops are facilitated by a medical doctor specialized in chronic pain management, a physical therapist, and other guests interested in this work.

The FINER program’s mission is to decrease pain interference, improve quality of life, provide meaningful connections, and ultimately, limit excessive health care utilization, while addressing the root causes of chronic pain. The FINER program is unique because is incorporates interdisciplinary, evidence-based pain management strategies and includes weekly follow-up with the participants’ clinicians in a supportive group environment.
As a FINER participant, you will have access to Epic-integrated virtual visit consultations with physiatrists and interdisciplinary group sessions to engage concepts and processes learned in workshops, as well as experience integrative mind-body classes with practitioners who have experience treating chronic pain. This program is completely virtual, using a HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform.
Through preliminary research, the FINER program has been shown to be helpful for people with chronic pain. Participants may continue following up with the FINER program clinicians for a whole person, integrative pain care approach. Overcoming disability and suffering from chronic pain is difficult and takes work, but with team support, engagement and practice of pain coping strategies, change is always possible.
